The school system for Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle, North Carolina is all run through the county, Brunswick County. Although the towns have their own elementary schools, sometimes children from different towns end up in school together further down in their educational careers. The school board has representatives from both Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle, and if you’re moving to town, you might consider running for the school board at some point in the future.
Brunswick County has nine elementary schools spread throughout the towns. Students consolidate into five middle schools, which house grades six through eight. Once students are in ninth grade, they are moved to one of the county’s five high schools. All of the schools in the area use similar curriculum and are excellent places to send your children for an education.
Two of the high schools are specifically for college preparatory students, and these schools offer slightly different programs from the rest of the high schools in the system. The schools operate on a traditional schedule and have the same scheduled days off. The students use a nine-week grading period, so there are fewer periods than there typically are in a traditional schedule. This leaves high school students the opportunity to fit more classes in and to become more engaged in different areas during their school careers.
You can access the Brunswick County School’s website at www.co.brunswick.k12.nc.us. On the website, you’ll find all sorts of useful information. For instance, if you’re moving into town, you can figure out which school your children will attend and how and when to enroll them in school. Also, all of the school calendars are available online, as well as sports and special events schedules for the whole county.
